Steve Allen was born in Fort Lewis and grew up in Woodland, WA. He began playing music professionally at age 12. He performed with various groups on and off the road throughout his teens and 20s, playing all styles of music from rock to classical.
In the late '70s, early '80s, Steve became a house bassist at Jazz Alley in Seattle. During this time he played with such jazz greats as Tommy Flanigan, Hank Jones, Herb Ellis, Mose Allison, Milt Jackson, Diane Schure and Kenny G.
After earning a degree in Musical Engineering from the University of Washington, Steve started AM Music Productions. During his time writing and arranging at his own company he earned various awards for composition including 8 Emmy awards.
From 1984-89 he was band leader and bassist for "The Almost Live Show," starring Ross Schaefer.
He has arranged orchestral scores for several of New Age pianist David Lanz's albums, earning his first gold record for "Christofori's Dream." He and David were nominated for a Grammy award in 2001. He also served as the conductor for David Lanz when on tour, and during album production.
In 1999 and 2000 he served as guest arranger and conductor for the Montana Summer Symphony, sponsored by Montana Power.
Steve has studied with renowned American guitarist Christopher Parkening and recorded his own CD of classical Christmas music for the guitar.
